2. Introduction
Many know Sam Smith for the song “Latch” due to it’s catchy vibes, but I’m here to introduce you reasons why I love it for more than the catchy vocals, but more so the lyrics themselves and the music video.

3. Background Info
Disclosure is an electronic duo consisting of brothers Howard & Guy Lawrence. They were nominated for Best Dance/Electronica Album at the 2014 & Grammy Awards. They have also been nominated at the Brit Awards, International Dance Music Awards, NME Awards, & UK Music Video Awards. They are best known for their song “Latch & Omen,” both featuring Sam Smith.

4. Background info
Sam Smith is a singer-songwriter born on May 19th, (25), who rose to fame in 2012 when he was featured in Disclosure’s breakthrough single “Latch,” which went on as #11 in the UK Singles Chart. He earned his 1st number one single in 2013 on Naughty Boy’s “La La La.” He has been nominated for the 2014 Brit Critics Choice Award & the BBC’s Sound of 2014 poll both of which he won. His album “In the Lonely Hour,” which had hit sensation “Stay with Me,” which reached number 1 in the UK and number 2 on the US Billboard Hot 100. In 2014 he was nominated for 6 Grammy Awards. He’s also known for his soundtrack on the James Bond film Spectre with the song “Writing’s on the Wall,” which earned him winnings for the Golden Globe Award and Academy Award for Best Original Song.

6. Opinion Statement
In my opinion “Latch” is the most loving and uplifting song. I feel it’s one of Sam Smith’s best songs.

7. Theme
The theme of this song is love. I say this, because it has full-bodied vocals which sums up the delirious feeling of falling head over heels in love with someone or simply a crush.

8. Stanza 1
You lift my heart up When the rest of me is down You, you enchant me, even when you're not around If there are boundaries, I will try to knock them down I’m latching on babe Now I know what I have found
When the narrator feels down, depressed, bored and alone, his crush lifts his heart, giving him courage, happiness and love towards this person. And it’s not even just in his/her presence–– this person can make him/her feel better if he/she is just thought about. The boundaries Sam speaks of is problems, dilemmas, drama, etc. just to be with that person. He/she knows that he has found the right person, and is fastening himself/herself onto him, like the latch of a door, locking itself

9. Stanza 2
I feel we're close enough I wanna lock in your love I think we’re close enough Could I lock in your love, baby?
This verse plays into the fact of he/she knowing what they want which is a relationship due to the words “lock and latch.” Lock and Latch both go under things couples usually do such as: Hugging, Holding, Grasping, etc.

10. Stanza 3
Now I got you in my space I won’t let go of you Got you shackled in my embrace I’m latching on to you
He/she now has their crush right where they want he/she and now their going to seize the opportunity. He/she embrace to this person is similar to being chained up or shackled, giving us an odd metaphor to their imminently bounded connection.

11. Stanza 4
I’m so enraptured, got me wrapped up in your touch Feel so enamored, hold me tight within your clutch How do you do it, you got me losing every breath What did you give me to make my heart beat out my chest?
This shows that he/she’s crush has taken up on he/she’s idea of having a romantic relationship an their embracing one another. Enamored comes from the French word “in love.” It is depicted as meaning captivated or bewitched by love. He/she’s crush is depicted as having he/she weak in the knees and head over heels in these last 2 lines.

12. Conclusion
In conclusion Disclosure and Sam Smith’s song “Latch” is one of the most loving and uplifting song to me which appeals to all ages, because love starts way before you’re even out the womb.
