2 Why is this important? Assumptions cannot be made about Anticipated Year of Graduation (AYG) based on student’s age, grade level and/or credits earned. AYG cannot be changed once assigned. It is a critical factor in calculating graduation and completion rates.

3 Anticipated Year of Graduation
11/14/2018 Anticipated Year of Graduation Indicates the year a student is considered an on-time graduate. Typically set based on the student enrollment on or after October 1st of their 9th grade year. Officially assigned by CDE at the end of the first year of 9-12th grade in Colorado. Anticipated year of graduation is based on the student’s grade in the first year of enrollment in a Colorado 9-12th grade school.

4 Anticipated Year of Graduation
Student in 9th grade in school year would have anticipated year of graduation of Logic 9th grader in 10th grader in 11th grader in (3 year graduate) 12th grader in (Expected to graduate on-time 4 year) 12th grader in (5 year graduate) 12th grader in (6 year graduate) 12th grader in (7 year graduate)

5 Anticipated Year of Graduation
Scenario Anticipated Year of Graduation Student is coded as finishing 8th grade year and should have been coded as retained. The district realizes this in September and goes back to fix it. The district is concerned that miscoding the retention in July will impact future graduation rates. AYG is set on or after October 1. 9th grader in and student is reset to 8th grade 8th grader in student was reassigned to 8th grade before October 1st so the AYG was never set. 9th grader in after October 1st student’s AYG is set to

6 Anticipated Year of Graduation
11/14/2018 Scenario Anticipated Year of Graduation Student in 11th grade who is new to the state of Colorado in would have anticipated year of graduation of Logic 11th grader in (3 year graduate) 12th grader in (Expected to graduate on-time 4 year) 12th grader in (5 year graduate) 12th grader in (6 year graduate) 12th grader in (7 year graduate) Age is not a factor in determining AYG. Grade level is solely considered in assigning AYG.

7 Anticipated Year of Graduation
Scenario Anticipated Year of Graduation Student in 11th grade who is new to the state of Colorado in and transfers districts would still have anticipated year of graduation of Logic 11th grader in in district A (3 year graduate) 9th grader in in district B (Still has AYG of ) 10th grader in in district B 11th grader in in district B 12th grader in graduates from district B (7 year graduate) AYG does not change when a student switches district

8 Determining Grade Level
11/14/2018 Scenario Determining Grade Level Student is 17 years old, new to the state of Colorado in and enrolls in a school. School policies and procedures may want to take the following into account in determining grade level assignments. Previous academic experiences (progress towards graduation requirements, etc.) Currently identified academic needs (English language ability, etc.) Individual student situations (age, student and family needs, etc.) AYG assignment impacts graduation rates. What grade level should this student be in? 8

9 Anticipated Year of Graduation
11/14/2018 Anticipated Year of Graduation The Anticipated Year of Graduation may vary in the first year. The same student who is enrolled in multiple districts at different grades during the first year of enrollment as a 9th through 12th grader in a Colorado public school may have different AYGs in each district. Multiple AYGs will be resolved for individual students at the end of the school year through the end-of-year data collection process. The highest grade enrolled (soonest AYG) in any of these districts will be used to set Anticipated Year of Graduation. After the Anticipated Year of Graduation is set, it will remain with the student for the rest of his/her educational record in Colorado public schools. AYG is associated with student SASID through RITS system.
