2 J.M.W. Turner ( ) A romantic era painter with one foot in impressionism. He is one of the most important British painters ever. The Burning of the Houses of Lords and Commons, 16th October 1834, Oil on canvas

3 Caspar David Friedrich (1774-1840)
Considered the most important painter of the German Romantic Era. Concentrated on landscapes. His work Inspired the surrealists of the 1900s. Wanderer Above The Sea of Fog

4 Francisco Goya (1746-1828) A keen observer of human behavior.
Designer of tapestries. These tapestries contained scenes of every day life. Gained popular success. Painted for royals. Later became deaf and created satirical pictures of human behavior. Charles IV and his Family

5 William Blake (1757-1827) “One of the greatest poets of
the English language.” He believed the Bible to be the best poetry ever written. His art is very original and different than other romantic style artists. A Sunshine Holiday By William Blake

6 John Constable (1776-1837) Mostly self-taught artist.
His work is lively and realistic. His work was not well liked in his home country of England, but was popular in Paris, France. Stratford Mill by John Constable

7 Eugene Delacroix (1798-1863) Known as a “master of color”
His paintings changed the art world Many people objected to the violent nature of his subjects. Influenced impressionists and post impressionists Arab Horseman Attacked by a Lion
