2 Climate Climate is weather conditions over a long period of time
Causes Wind and ocean currents Help move heat and cold to different parts of the planet Latitude Places at high latitude get little sunlight during the winter and tend to be very cold Places close to the equator (the tropics) get a lot of sun in both the summer and the winter and tend to be very hot Elevation Temperatures get lower the higher up you get High mountains can also block moisture

4 Types of Climate Fill out the climate chart using pages in your textbook Write a short description of each type of climate in your own words Does not have to be in complete sentences or have proper grammar Make a small picture that will help you remember what the climate is like

Use your chart and the maps on pages 193 and 194 to answer the following questions What type of climate is there in most of Brazil? What type of climate dominates Uruguay? What type of climate is most common along the equator? What types of climate tend to border deserts? What could you say, overall, about the climate of Mexico? What type of climate dominates the Caribbean islands? Based solely on climate, what country in Latin America would you want to live in? Why?
