1 Linking data / Spatial data Identifiers

2 Main points Some countries are looking into rules for how to build a persistent HTTP- URI’s for spatial objects/datasets/services/etc. Few countries have actually put them into place and have implemented them. Some experiences are available. Not all countries have a national registry (used to maintain persistent identifiers). In many countries: the INSPIRE identifiers are still being changed (trying to find out how to build them in the best way). We need to find use cases for using Linked Data (based on HTTP-URI’s PIDS) to demonstrate the importance. Governance is very important.

3 Governance Should a model be developed for how to deal with the governance? At which level should each part of the URI be managed? National level for all? Divide according to domain, or other criteria? How are countries dealing with PIDs currently (often via bilateral agreements it seems), and how to do the transition to URI’s?

4 Open questions On what level to use PID? INSPIRE feature, thematic identifier for the real world object, dataset? What are the use cases? When is it fit for purpose? What conditions should be fulfilled before you can actually start using HTTP-URI’s as PIDs?
