13. Interpretation of data
Chart 1 shows the distribution of the world’s population by continent. The vertical axis shows the percentage of world population and the horizontal axis compares the six continents listed, divided into a comparison of three years: 1800, 1900 and 1997.
As can be seen from the chart, by far the largest percentage of the world’s population lived in Asia compared with any other continent in In fact, Asia accounted for as much as 65% of the world’s population. On the other hand, North America and Oceania together accounted for only 1% of the total.

Tech Chart of the Day shows the volumes of sales of PCs compared with those of iOS/Android devices. It covers the period from the third quarter of 2008 to the first quarter of At the beginning of the period the sales of PCs largely surpassed those of iOS/Android devices, with the former being at around 80 million, and the latter at approximately 10 million units. Throughout the observed period PC sales remained relatively steady, fluctuating between a low of 60 million and a high of 100 million units. Towards the end of the period, a declining trend is observed, closing at roughly 70 million units. Conversely, The sales of iOS/Android units had a steady rise which became particularly sharp from the third quarter of Apart from a slight drop in the second quarter of 2012, the rise continued to be steady and dramatic, closing at 200 million units at the end of the observed period. These trends show that, in the period in question, the personal computer still retained an important position, which can probably be explained by its widespread use in business. However, personal mobile devices appear to be gaining popularity at an unprecedented speed.
