Now What?

2. Bump 10
Materials: -Hundreds Chart -Game pieces -Dice -Markers -Marker Boards/Table
Directions: -Call out a word, phonogram, sound, blend, show a picture, etc. to first student. -If the student answers correctly, they get to roll the dice and move their game piece to that number. -If the student gets it wrong, go to the next student. -Once the next student rolls, if they land on the same number as another student, they will get to "bump 10". For example, Lucy is on 12 and Jose lands on 12 next, he will bump 10 to 22. -Whoever is in the lead when time is up wins or first one to 100.

3. Jenga
Materials: -Lewo Tumbling Tower -Game pieces -Dice (included) -Markers -Marker Boards/Table
Directions: -Call out a word, phonogram, sound, blend, show a picture, etc. to first student. -If the student answers incorrectly, they have to roll the dice and pull the color. If the tower falls, the game is over. -If the student gets it right, that student gets a game piece, go to the next student.

4. What's that word? Materials: -Phonogram game boards -Markers
Directions: -Students will take turns asking the teacher questions about the word. For example- Does the word begin with "c"? If it does not, the students will know to mark out all the words that begin with "c" on the game board. -The game continues until one of the students guesses your word. That student is the winner. This game could be played on all grade levels using different types of questions.

5. Spoons Materials: -4 players -3 spoons -16 cards 4 that "match"
Directions:
The 4 players sit in a circle with the 3 spoons in the middle.
One of the players distributes 4 cards to each player, including him or herself.
Each player takes turns passing one card that they do not want to the player to their left, usually at one player’s signal to “Switch”. (There is no discard pile.)
When a player has 4 cards that are a match, he/she, as quietly as possible, takes a spoon from the center.
As the other players notice this, they (as quietly as possible) take a spoon until there is one player without a spoon.
The player without a spoon must say, “Prove it!” to the player that has the match.
Next, the player with the match has to prove that his/her cards are matches.
If the original player is able to prove it, the player without the spoon has to add an S to his/her scoreboard. If the original player cannot prove that his/her cards match, that player gets an S.
Take up all cards, shuffle, and play again.
If a player spells the word SPOONS, they lose.

6. Spin a Phonogram
Materials: -Game Spinner -Phonogram Cards -Game pieces
Directions: -Put small version of phonograms on each piece of the spinner (you can attach with sticky tack or velcro) -Teacher spins the spinner and stops it. -The student must say or write a word to the phonogram. For example- student has "ch" pointing to them. The student says or writes chair correctly, they receive a game piece for answering. The next student in the circle has "oo" pointing to them, the student says or writes lock, this answer is incorrect so they will not receive a game piece, and so on. -Spin again and repeat. -The student with the most game pieces wins.
This game can be changed to words, pictures, sounds, beginning letters, ending letters, rhyming words, short vowels, blends, etc.

7. How to make it: Game Spinner
Materials: -Cake Board -knob -hot glue -Sharpie
How to make it: Game Spinner
Directions: -Use a cake board to create a game spinner that can be used for SO many types of games. -Take the wooden knob and center it in the board and push it through. You may want to trim the knob so it isn't too long. -Use the hot glue gun to keep the knob in place on the bottom -Use a protractor and ruler to create the lines on the board. You can make however many lines you want to create the spinner. Some of my spinner are 6 pieces and some are 8. -Use pointed pencils or numbers etc. In each piece.

9. Boggle
Boggle is such a great game for pattern recognition and spelling. You can even get a little math in there with the scoring. Kids (and adults) love it! Here is a template you can use with your class. The color version is for using with your document camera, while the grayscale version is perfect for individual use. Just change out the letters to get a new game every time (document is in MS Word). e-templates-make-new-game-every.html
