Unit 7 Notes: The Nervous & Lymphatic Systems
This template can be used as a starter file for a photo album.
2
(1) Nervous System Structures
Main Parts: Brain Spinal Cord Nerves Neurons (Cells) Sensory Parts: Eyes Sensory Receptors (within skin) Tastebuds on Tongue Ear Olfactory Receptors in Nose
7
(2) Nervous System Functions
Respond to internal and external changes/stimuli. Coordinate functioning of all organ systems. Maintain homeostasis. Allow for sensory reception. Allow for memory, logic, problem solving and language.
9
(3) Nervous System Disorders
Imbalance of Neurotransmitters (chemicals used to send nerve impulses): Alzheimers Parkinsons Huntingtons Addiction Cerebral Palsy Cerebrum (brain) does not fully develop or develop properly. Paralysis Spinal Cord Severed and cannot receive/send brain messages.
10
(4) Lymphatic System structures
Lymph Vessels Lymph Nodes White Blood Cells / Leukocytes Antibodies and Antigens
13
(5) Lymphatic System functions
Transfer harmful or useless toxins away from cells and out of the body. Help cells reabsorb an useful nutrients/water filtered out. Identify foreign cells using antibodies and antigens. A foreign cell could be bacteria, a virus, or the donor tissue. Attack and destroy foreign cells.
17
(6) Lymphatic System disorders
Lymphoma Cancerous white blood cells that flourish in lymph vessels and lymph nodes. Leukemia Cancerous white blood cells that flourish in bone marrow. Autoimmune Diseases Your body produces antibodies to attack your own cells! Lupus Rheumatoid Arthritis Crohns Psoriasis
