By Ada M. Stockwell

2 The Dead Sea Scrolls

3 How Were the Dead Sea Scrolls Found?
A young shepherd wandered around the country side, looking after his sheep. He threw stones in some caves nearby to pass the time, when a stone struck pottery, and the pottery smashed. The shepherd went to investigate, and found thousands of scrolls and fragments of scrolls in jars all around the cave. They were the DEAD SEA SCROLLS

4 Why are the Dead Sea Scrolls so Important?
Many things were written in the dead sea scrolls, but they mainly show us that the people who have written the bible today have not changed the words that were originally written, because they believed that they were truly writing the word of God. The books in the dead sea scrolls are the same as the first ones in the bible and the Torah: The Ten Commandments Tefillin Minor Prophets Genesis Psalms Community rule Leviticus/Paleo Leviticus And More…

5 Fun Facts!!! The scrolls are made of papyrus, parchment and animal skins The book of Esther was the only book in the old testament that was not found in the caves The caves in which the scrolls were found number 11 Only caves 1 and 11 contain scrolls that are full and readable and not fragments (small pieces) Cave number 3 contains a scroll called ‘the copper scroll’ which reads like an ancient Indiana Jones quest

It is read four times a week in synagogues around the world. It is made of many sheets of parchment sewn together to make a whole book. The Torah is the Jewish holy book and is very important.

The Torah affects Jew’s lives because it is a book of God’s words and his laws. They are the Jew’s commandments, what they must do every day.
