5. 4.Exposition
As this story begins Rainsford and his friend Whitney are on a yacht at night in the Caribbean Sea on their way to hunt jaguar in the Amazon.

6. 5. Rising action.
Rainsford falls off the yacht, heard gun shots and a scream and swam to an island.
The island belongs to Zaroff who is bored with hunting and wants to find the perfect quarry.
Rainsford realizes that Zaroff hunts humans.
Zaroff begins to hunt Rainsford.
Zaroff’s assistant Ivan and his best hunting dog are killed by Rainsford.
The hunt for Rainsford continues

7. 6.Climax
Zaroff thinks Rainsford is dead when he comes out from behind the curtain and confronts Zaroff.

8. 7.Falling action
Rainsford tells Zaroff he swam to get back to the chateau.
Zaroff tells Rainsford one of them will become a meal for the hounds.
Zaroff says “On, guard, Rainsford. ”
Rainsford never had a better night’s sleep.
The reader infers that Zaroff lost and was thrown to the dogs.
