3. Star Chart Moon Earth Cloud Thunder Cloud
All children start the day on Earth – this shows the children are behaving in the expected manner.
When children are showing behaviour above what is expected they move onto the moon and possibly even the star!
They will do this by showing behaviours such as great class participation, answering questions, doing the right thing, showing kindness, thoughtfulness, helpfulness and showing that extra strive to do well.

4. Children will move onto the cloud if their behaviour or actions are proving unkind, inappropriate or disruptive to the learning of others, whether in class or around the school. It is the chance to think about changing behaviour to do the right thing.
Children will move onto the thundercloud if they are still making poor choices and affecting the learning of their classmates. Children will then spend a short period of time in another classroom thinking about how they can improve their behaviour choices when they return.

5. Rewards
Stars – if your child is on the star they will receive a merit and a table point
Moon – they will receive a table point
A ‘Star of the Week’ will be chosen each week and they will receive their certificate in our Celebration Assembly on Friday.
In addition, in Year 5:
Good work/ behaviour/ act of kindness etc will receive a merit
A cumulative effort over the week will mean every child on the table at the end of the week with the most table points will get a merit

6. Reading
Your child is welcome to read any suitable book, magazine, comic, non-fiction book or annual of their choice
However it should be suitable for their reading level, if it is too difficult they may become demotivated.
THE most important thing is that they ENJOY reading and READ on a daily basis
Once a week, they will have the opportunity to visit the school library. They are able to take out 2 books in their name. We try and ensure that at least one is a fiction book.
Children who fail to return books will not be allowed to take further books.

The internet – online books e.g. Woodlands-junior school website has directions to online storybooks
The Book People – website that sells books at cheap prices!

7. Spellings
More emphasis is being placed on learning the rule rather than a whole list of words.
Spelling rules will be looked at in 2 week cycles.
Week 1 - we will look at the rule, letter patterns, play games.
Week 2 – the children will be tested on the spelling pattern through a short dictation – not just a list of words.
The children will be sent home a list of the spellings that need to be practised over the fortnight.

8. Pen Licence
All children have the opportunity to earn their pen licence.
In order to receive it they will need to:
Write on the line
All letters must be consistent in size
All letters must be formed correctly
Ascenders and descenders must be formed correctly.
Writing must be joined.
We have interventions groups where necessary.
The pen licence will be awarded at the discretion of staff.

9. OLL – (Homework)
Maths and Literacy are set bi-weekly. The children will be asked to complete pages in a CGP Homework book which has been selected to consolidate classroom learning at their ability level. It is sent out on a Monday and is due the following Monday. The children who hand their OLL in on time will move onto the moon.
In addition the children are expected to read daily and record it in their diary.
Also we would like them to regularly practise their times tables.
Please encourage your child not to rush their work, but to produce clear, neat work that reflects what they are capable of.
Children should write in pencil and please encourage your child to join up!

10. The OLL Project
Opportunity to be creative on an area of the topic that they are really interested in.
It will be due in on Friday 30th November. The viewing of all projects will be on Tuesday 4th December after school in the hall.
The children will all get the chance to showcase their work and have a look at the work of others.
Ideas:
Presentations – PowerPoint, Films
Artwork, model making, posters,
Baking, cooking along with a recipe.

11. PE
Please ensure that your child has their PE kit available in school throughout the week. Although we have designated PE days these can be subject to change at short notice
PE kit consists of; Navy blue Blackwell PE T-shirt, navy shorts and plimsolls that fit! Jogging bottoms may be worn for outdoor PE
Please ensure all pieces of kit are named
Earrings should NOT be worn for PE as per West Sussex County regulations (unless for religious or cultural reasons, in which case we need a letter)
If your child has had their ears pierced for 6 weeks or more they need to either; be able to remove their earrings independently or not wear them on a PE day.
Please start encouraging your child to practise removing earrings if your child is currently unable to.
Tape needs to be provided to cover recently pierced ears.
are advised to remove them at home before come to school on swimming days to avoid difficulties removing them and so they do not get lost
