Outline for this week Review of syllabus Rationale for the course
Minimal introduction to the course Scientific method Internal and External Validity (more on constraints and control in research) This week I want you to review the syllabus video. In the context of our PowerPoint slides, we're going to explore the rationale for the course, give you a minimal introduction to the course, and will begin our conversation about scientific method. We'll probably wait to talk about internal and external validity and constraints in control and research until next week’s slides.

Meet the instructors Dr.Kolmogorov will be our “introducer of topics”
When you see him, you’ll know we’re making a theme switch Andrey Kolmogorov Throughout the course, you will see differently themed slides and narrators which will signal the purposes of each slide. Dr. Kolmogorov, of the Kolmogorov-Smirnoff normality test, seen here receiving his Nobel prize, will be our introducer of topics. So when you see him, you'll know are making a theme switch.

Let’s review the syllabus
Carl Gauss In general, Dr. Gauss will remind us of the relevance of a topic Right now, let’s have him lead us to a syllabus review. Then, we’ll return to the slides to emphasize a few key issues. When you see slides with Dr. Gauss, he's going to remind us of the relevance of a topic. In this case, he's going to set us up to look at some of the most relevant and important features of the syllabus that are covered in the syllabus review video. With the end of this presentation, I want you to take a look at the syllabus review video, and then we'll return to PowerPoint to emphasize a few key issues and supplement the syllabus review.
