2 What is a Dictatorship? Every aspect of people’s lives is controlled by the government The government is 1 main person (The Dictator) Closely connected to Fascism

3 Fascism Opposed to democracy Extremely nationalistic
Rely on military & police power to maintain absolute control Control all media Use propaganda to promote state ideals Does this sound familiar?

4 Rise of Fascist Governments
Why would the situation of the world in the 1930s encourage the rise of a fascist style government? Discuss with a partner

5 Condition of Europe Economies of Europe never recovered from WW1 (repairing their country / paying for the war / creating new jobs /etc) 1930s depression made everything WORSE Unemployment = high Food = very little available Lawlessness (criminals) = became a major problem

6 Communism is Only Solution!
Communism is hypothetical Classless moneyless, stateless social order structured upon common ownership of the means of production

9 Others think Fascism Need a strong military to take back order & control! Result was: Powerful leaders took control & were dictators & suppressed all opposition
