IPv6 VPN Based Address Format draft-lee-l3vpn-ipv6-vpn-00.txt
Bin Hongfei IETF 64, Nov. 2005
2
Motivation A new L3 VPN solution based on structure of IPv6 addresses. The target of solution reduce payload of packet. In IPv6 addresses there are enough bits available to allow us to embed a VPN site ID, so that no encapsulation overhead is required to achieve isolation between VPNs 8 bytes could saved between IPv6 VPN and MPLS VPN Pure IPv6 Network could support L3 VPN IETF 64, Nov. 2005

Two Kinds of IPv6 VPN Address (1)
VPN-Local Address(VLA) VPN-Local Address is similar to the site-local address. Valid only within VPN Perfix of VPN-Local Address should be sent by routing protocol to other site of this VPN First kind of VPN-Local address structure is this figure. The other VPN-Local address structure is ULA which defined in draft-ietf-ipv6-unique-local-addr-09.txt(RFC4193) reserved Subnet ID Interface ID 10 bits 38 bits 16 bits 64 bits IETF 64, Nov. 2005

Two Kinds of IPv6 VPN Address (2)
VPN-Global Address(VGA) The VPN-Global Address is used for transmitting packet of VPN on the public IPv6 network VPN-Global addresses are different from global IPv6 addresses. Router must prevent VPN-Global addresses of different VPNs from mutual access. 010 VPN site ID Subnet ID Interface ID 3 bits 45 bits 16 bits 64 bits VPN ID Site ID 16 bits 29 bits IETF 64, Nov. 2005
