This song was chosen for its symbolism of someone enduring hard times, and hoping for a better outcome once the ordeal is over, as shown by Napoleon It also represents the confusion and dumbfounded-ness of the citizens that were affected by the French Revolution. Also it has one of the best guitar solos ever

3 Napoleon Bonaparte (1769-1821)
Born in August 15, 1769 in Corsica Born into a poor family Educated in a Military School Napoleon Bonaparte ( ) One of the greatest military leaders in history. First Emperor of France Led armies against the British during the French Revolution Conquered most of Europe

4 Rise in the Military After graduating military school, Napoleon quickly rose up in ranks In 1796, he was made commander of the French army in Italy

5 In 1798, Napoleon conquered Egypt, originally ruled by the Ottoman, in order to cut off British trade routes to India. His fleet was destroyed in the Battle of the Nile, leaving him stranded. Conquer of Egypt

6 A new Coalition Upon returning to Paris, word of Austria and Russia forming an alliance with Britain had spread. Napoleon became first consul in a coup d’etat in November 1799 He was then made Consul for Life in 1802

7 In 1804, Napoleon became France’s first, and only emperor.
His rule led to the creation of the Bank of France Also reinstated Roman Catholicism as the main religion Introduced the law reforms, called Code Napoleon The Emperor of France

8 War and Peace Peace? War. After defeating the Austrians in Marengo in 1800, he negotiated peace in Europe and obtained French control over the continent. Britain resumed war in 1803, later joined again by Austria and Russia, using the Navy to take down the French at Trafalgar in 1805.

9 After Trafalgar, Napoleon abandoned his plans of invading England, and instead focused on the Austrian and Russian armies, defeating them in Austerlitz in 1805 Battle of Austerlitz

Due to Napoleon’s victory in the Battle of Austerlitz, he gained many more territories, including some Prussian land, which helped increase Napoleon’s power in Europe The Holy Roman Empire decimated, and Holland and Westphalia were formed Relatives and loyal followers of Napoleon were positioned to lead certain countries

12 Peninsular War Starting in 1808, the French started off on the wrong foot, losing many battles for over 5 years. Napoleon’s attempt at invading Russia failed in 1812, and caused Napoleon to retreat

14 Elba Napoleon was forced into exile in the Mediterranean island of Elba However he did not stay long He escaped in March of 1815, and traveled onwards to the French capital, in preparation for his last stand.

15 Battle of Waterloo (Napoleon’s last stand)

17 Napoleon Fun Facts Napoleon’s father was a gambler, and once he died of stomach cancer, he left his family poor Napoleon was a Roman Catholic, yet never believed in god Code Napoleon influenced many civil law jurisdictions worldwide (Including the US) He was promoted to gain control of the Italian French Army due to his capture of the city of Toulon

18 More Fun Facts Autopsy claimed that Napoleon died of Stomach Cancer, but some scientist believed it was Arsenic Poisoning He was only around 5’6”, making him one of the world’s shortest Military leaders Napoleon also had hemorrhoids Napoleon had 12 siblings, only 7 survived into adulthood
