Rewards and Sanctions We do expect good behaviour in class at all times. With good behaviour it means that everyone can work hard and achieve their goals. Rewards – stickers - sticker charts - praise - gems Sanctions – Cross on the list (miss 5 minutes for each cross off golden time) - Missed playtimes

Homework and reading Homework should be done every week as it backs up the work we have been doing in class. If not completed they need to do it in golden time. Reading folders to be in every day so that books can be books be changed and children can be heard to read. We will also send home tasks linked to the books at times (book reviews, character descriptions etc) to extend their level of understanding. You can help support your child’s reading development by listening to them read, reading to them yourself and sharing a variety of books at home. We value your support and encourage you to contribute to your child’s reading diary, regularly. Spellings are given out on a Friday and the children are tested on them on a Monday (they link to their phonic/spelling group)
6
Phonics Phonics carry on from Year One and the children are put into small groups. If they passed the Phonic test in Year One they will recap over the sounds and be in a Phase 6 group. They will then work on a spelling programme called ‘No-nonsense’ spellings that covers lots of grammar work. If your child hasn’t passed the phonic test they will be working on phonic sounds to allow them to have another go this year to pass.
7
Uniform All children need to have the correct uniform and have PE kit in school all the time. No trainers are allowed to be worn. If they come in with the wrong uniform we will get the children to get changed into PE kit or spare uniform.
8
Attendance Please try to get your child to school every day and on time When your child is late it really impacts on the learning they do first thing in the morning.
9
Topics covered We cover many topics in our class. We do work practically and written. English covers lots of text types – instructions, stories, reports, recounts, poems and lots more. Maths covers number, shape, measurements, fractions, time etc Science – materials, plants, living things and habitats, animals and humans Topic – where we live, explorers, map work Computing – sound, keyboard skills, coding etc

Expectations In Year Two they are expected to do a lot and they do SATs tests in May next year. The sheets on the tables are what they are expected to be able to do to achieve the Year Two standard. One of them is the Key learning sheet for reading, writing and maths which is what we use to plan. The other sheets are the expected grids. Please look at these sheets to see what your child is expected to do in Year Two.
11
Year Two words These words are in their books to help them read and spell all the words by the end of the year..

Interventions and support
In class we evaluate how each child is doing and if we think they need extra help we will either do 1:1 support or they will be in an intervention group to close any gaps they have. They can come and go in the group because if they are doing well and don’t need the support anymore they can come out of the group. It is used to support your child in a small group situation.
13
How you can help We want to encourage our children to be as independent as possible. For example, we encourage them to be responsible for remembering their own reading books and homework.. Read everything! Books are for enjoyment, as well as learning, so encourage reading as much as you can. Talk about what they’ve read, ask opinions, make predictions, visit the library and make sure your child sees you reading too. If we work together the children will be on track to meet the Year Two expectations.
14
Any Questions We hope that this presentation is useful. Should you have any questions, please feel free to speak to a member of staff. We aim to ensure that your children’s experience in Year Two is a happy and rewarding one. We look forward to working with both you and your child.
