“For at least the seventh year in succession, we have maintained our position as one of the leading comprehensive school sixth forms in England. The record proportion of A*-C grades was especially noteworthy, as was the consistency of performance across the curriculum in a year where the first linear examinations were taken”
6
The Alps Value Added Report 2017
This means out of all English schools (2,890 providers) over the last 3 years we are close to the top in terms of the progress our students make.

Little kids have little problems….
Big kids have big problems.
15
Academic progression Step up to Level 3 from GCSE is big - and a bit daunting Level 7/ Grade A at GCSE = (approximately) Grade C at A-Level Most subjects are now ‘Linear’ AS is half of A Level syllabus – content is not re-taught in Year 13 Vocational Courses have continuous assessment and exams Universities can see all AS results (and of course GCSEs) We expect a C grade or Target grade to progress automatically Get it right first time round…
17
Increasing independence – students need to develop good working habits, and quickly
Each single subjects demands at least 5 hours work a week outside lessons Study (not social) periods - students must use them! Study Centre - open to 6pm every day Paid employment - maximum 10 hours a week Y12 is 32 weeks… so attendance is crucial
18
95% attendance = missing half a day a week
