The Berlin Conference: Seven countries carved up Africa for their own Imperialist purposes – Great Britain, France, Germany, Belgium, Italy, Spain, and Portugal.

He modernized the military, set up public education, and created small industry.

While western nations proclaimed democracy, equality, and political freedom, none were applied to Africa.
Mainly, because of racism and the feelings of white superiority.
