1 Live Virtual Lessons Tutorial
Guideline #1 By: Diana Lenartiene & Suzanne Ensmann, Indian River State College

2 Before we begin, let’s introducing… your virtual classroom
Let me give you a quick tour of our virtual classroom so you may know how to simply get started and interact! You ALWAYS want to include these slides in all of your lessons to assure your students are comfortable in the classroom before you begin. Have them introduce themselves to each other! Pay attention, there will be a quiz at the end! [Read slide] Elluminate Meeting/Classroom 6/10/2008; updated: 10/3/11

3 [Read slide] Let’s try it now… Would everyone please raise your hand. Now, a letter. Elluminate Meeting/Classroom 6/10/2008; updated: 10/3/11

4 [Read slide] These emotion indicators are also called emoticons. Let’s try them now. Select the applause button to give you a big round of applause [or “to thank our moderator”] for being here today! Elluminate Meeting/Classroom 6/10/2008; updated: 8/4/2009

7 [Read slide] Although my name is Ms. Suzanne Ensmann, you probably see me in the Participant window as “moderator”. So, do you see my moderator mic glowing now and do you see my moderator name in the Audio window? Raise your hand if so. Elluminate Meeting/Classroom 6/10/2008; updated: 8/4/2009

8 Let’s try it… Introduce yourself to someone else in the class…

10 Encourage students to get to know each other too
Encourage students to get to know each other too! Start forming those relationships NOW… THAT’s what supports persistence, completions… SUCCESS in your class! So, remember, this session may be recorded and others can read your messages, so please remember to write and say only what you would want the president or your grandmother to be reading and seeing. 11 [Read slide] Elluminate Meeting/Classroom 6/10/2008; updated: 8/4/2009

12 Likewise, you may also “save” the Whiteboard instead of printing it if you’d like.

13 To make certain you see everything in your virtual classroom, please make certain to select View at the top right of your Elluminate window. Then select Layout, Then, select Default layout. Elluminate Meeting/Classroom 6/10/2008; updated: 8/4/2009

14 Let’s review: Respond to poll Emoticons Chat Adjust volume
Let’s review. Select an Emoticon for me! Now, select a letter as if you were answering a question on a quiz. Don’t hesitate to RAISE YOUR HAND and ask questions in the chat box and adjust your volume as needed throughout all your Elluminate lessons now! Remember, RAISE YOUR HAND. Just like in class you may not be called upon if you don’t raise your hand. The instructor will be busy teaching and may not see your question without your hand raised. Chat Adjust volume

We will also demonstrate how to request access to the Google calendar and place your lesson information directly into the collaborative appointment, respectively.

21 Select the days and times you will present your lesson(s).
1) Complement the Live Virtual Lessons Google calendar, and use these data results to help you determine best times and days for students: 2) Look at the data. 3) Survey your students & based on all this information, select dates and times for your lessons. Select the days and times you will present your lesson(s). How do you decide how to do this? 1) Start by, complementing the Live Virtual Lessons Google calendar. These individuals have been offering Live Virtual Lessons successfully. See what times are working for them and see where we need more lessons! 2) Then, use these data results to help you determine best times and days for students: For example, when you click on the data link you may find the most popular times and days which have been offered so far. Perhaps these times would work well for your students; perhaps you want to try a new time which is not listed on here. 3) Survey your students and see when they’ll come! Based on all this information, select dates and times for your lessons.

22 Now, request access to the Google calendar
Note: If your name does not appear in the collaborators, contact one of the collaborators and request to be added to the list if necessary.

23 When you receive access, login to Google with the User ID provided to you (unless you noted in the that you had a Google account, and select Calendar). Select the IRSC Live Virtual Lessons calendar. Once you succeed in doing this, the box next to it will be colored in. Now, double click on the time and day you will offer your lesson. An appointment will open up.

24 Use the other Live Virtual Lesson appointments, like this one,
as a template for consistency. Input your information ALL fields Event Title Where Description Color your appointments consistently the same as the other appointments of the same subjects. Select Repeat and complete accordingly, if you will be offering this lesson more than once.

25 That’s it! Now, your students and colleagues and encourage them to join you for your next lesson!
