Each plant part has a different responsibility to protect, help the plant survive or help it reproduce
The basic parts of a plant are
Roots

7. Structures (Parts of the Plant) for Defense
Plants have structures for defense that protect themselves from being eaten or drying out
These defenses have devolved over time (thousands of years) to help the plant not get eaten
Thorns- Protect plants from being eaten by animals
Poisons- some plants release poison so when animals eat them they die
Thigmotropism- this is when leaves close when they are touched

Thigmotropism- When the leaves of a plant close when you touch it
Poison- Some plants release poison when the plant is eaten which kills the animals that eat it
Thorns- Some plants have prickly thorns so animals can’t eat the plant

Leaves are where photosynthesis, respiration & transpiration takes place which are necessary to the plants survival
PHOTOSYNTHESIS makes FOOD & ENERGY for the plants

Store some of the extra food & energy made during photosynthesis
Contains the Xylem which transports water to the whole plant
Contains the Phloem which transports food (glucose) to the rest of the plant
