Xylem: Transports water

Xylem & Phloem run continuously from roots to leaves.

Cuticle: Waxy covering that prevents leaves from drying out.
Stomata: Openings on the underside of leaves where gas exchange occurs.
Guard Cells: Cells in charge of opening and closing the stomata.

Plants close their stomata to keep from losing water on hot days.

11. Roots in Seed Plants
Root Hair: Extensions of the root that increases the surface area to help absorb more water.
Lateral Root: A root branch that grows from a tap root.
