Mr. Nichols’ Homeroom The expectation is that you are reading silently until 8 am. Have a seat anywhere except the desk along the back wall. Once you sit, do not get out of your seat. Do not save seats for someone, it is first come, first serve

5 Objective: I will be able to understand and carry out classroom rules and daily procedures including entering the class, giving 5, the hype circle, and positive and negative actions based on how I conduct myself.

6 A Little About Me Grew up in Englewood, FL 3 years US Army
- 13 months overseas (OIF) Florida State University Bachelors in Health Science 2 years teaching 12th grade Anatomy and Physiology My 3rd year at Henderson Hammock ( 2 years in 6th grade, 1 year in 8th grade) 11 year old son named Carson

7 Expectations in This Room
Follow my instructions Have a book with you to read at ALL TIMES If you finish your work early, you will read, work on homework or not extra credit. Do not talk, distract or make any noise while I am speaking Stay on task (Do what is expected of you) Put your name on all of your work Do not touch anyone (playing or not) Give 110% on all work (What you hand in is a reflection of you)

8 Understanding Where You Are Now
Middle School is not elementary school More is now expected of you both academically (your work) and behaviorally (how you act at school) This class is based on structures and routines. We will be doing several things daily As time goes on I will expect you to know these Every action has a consequence good or bad The expectation in this room is that you follow the instructions I give you. (NO EXCEPTIONS)

Your signal to: Stop what you are doing Stop talking IMMEDIATLEY Entire class is quiet Should happen immediately Can earn or lose clips depending on how well it is executed Lets practice now

10 Entering the Room Place your bag along the side wall under the body systems posters (assigned seats will be given the 3rd week of school) When the bell rings the following should be completed The entire class should be silent Your binder, stamp card and pencil should be on your desk If this is not done correctly, a clip will be lost We will practice it again you don’t want this so do it right the first time

11 Leaving the Room Agenda is required at ALL times,
no exceptions ($5 if you lose it) Make sure you sign the correct sign-out form -This keeps you out of trouble, trust me Take the FSU pass hanging on the bookshelf

12 Parking Lot and Da Fridge
Used for question or comments during class Will be answered the next class period Da Fridge! Work that you are proud of and want to show off. Must be a 70% or higher

13 Bellwork 8/26/15 Write down at least 5 important words you hear the coach say? How do you think we can take what he says and use it in our class? What message did you get from the video?

14 Bellwork 8/27/15 List 2 actions that are considered minor violations and 2 actions that are major violations. Name the 2 ways you can earn Hero points in this classroom. In at least 3 sentences, explain what you think is expected of you during centers and why you think following these expectations is important.

15 Warm-ups Will be completed everyday Will normally take about 5 min
Individual competition (No talking) or with a partner Will be randomly collected for a grade

16 Major vs Minor Violations
You will be asked to step outside 3 minors in one month = 1 major Detention will be issued Parent is Contacted Include: Talking when not instructed to do so Being off task Not being prepared for class Tardy to class Having your cell phone out Any other behavior that I see fit Major You will be asked to step outside Automatic Detention on Friday afternoon from 3-4pm Parent is contacted Include: Any type of physical contact with another student Verbal disrespect towards teacher Any behavior that I see fit

17 Major vs Minor Violations
If you are asked to leave the room please do the following: Quietly stop what you are doing and walk outside Do not argue with me or another student about the situation You will have your chance to explain what happened Now is not the time Wait QUIETLY right outside the classroom door and wait for me to come talk to you Don’t make the situation worse for yourself

18 So What Can I do in Here? All actions in this room have consequences
Lets talk about the good ones 25 clips = entire class reward Stamp Cards Basketball Shots Class Dojo

19 The Clips Can be lost or gained based on the entire class’ behavior
25 clips earned will result in 10 points added to Class Dojo Earning Clips: Entering the room correctly 80% or higher on quizzes (entire class) No violations Quick transitions (between centers/new topics) Doing what you are supposed to be doing Losing Clips: Not entering the room correctly Most of the class is off topic Most of the class is off task Several individuals talking while I am talking

20 Reward Cards Individual Reward 15 stamps = full card
Homework completion (Randomly) High Quiz/Test scores (Randomly) Leading by example When I feel like it (have to be in class to receive these punches) Asking for punches will result in me taking your card and you will have to start over Once your card is filled you may: Redeem for 10 Dojo points or Individual prize

21 Shots, Shots, Shots! DO NOT use without permission
Shot opportunities will be given for: Answer questions correctly Making a shot could result in stamps for your card.

22 Class Dojo Cards carried at all times Track good and bad behavior
Chance to earn points for doing the right thing Points earn you: Entrance to PBS events Other individual prizes REMEMBER, Reward cards can be redeemed for 10 Dojo points

23 Timed Pair Share Teacher will be pick who goes first
One person will talk for 30 seconds while partner listens If speaker does not use the full 30 seconds, the listener asks questions After the first 30 seconds, listen becomes speaker, speaker becomes listener 50%

24 Centers/Stations ALL classroom expectation are still applied
Should never be above level 1 Every one should be on task Instructions for the center will be posted on one of the Center Tables
