Howdy!
Thank you for having me today. I was invited to talk to you about the opportunities for our engineering students to study abroad. However, before I do that I would like to start with why participating in a study abroad program and developing your global competency skills is important.
After that I will present the Engineering International Programs Office and the various opportunities for you all to study abroad and I will conclude with how you can get the Engineering International Certificate.

3. Today’s Economy is Global and Interconnected

As you can see having global competency, can save you from some complicated situations…

4. The Engineering Industry is Global
Engineers can be located anywhere in the world as required by their business
This includes:
U.S. engineers located abroad
Foreign engineers working for companies in the USA
Conducting business in international locations without traveling to that location
Why is that import for engineers??
Engineers working in any field will be required to do business with world
This includes:
An US engineer being relocated to abroad
A foreign engineer being placed in a company in the US
An engineers all over the world having to work in joint project without traveling.

5. Today’s Engineer Needs Global Competency
The National Academy of Engineering states that a core need for engineers is to be able to work with a diverse, multinational, multidisciplinary workforce
Engineers need to have a global mindset and be prepared for the global job market
(Chan & Fishbein, 2009)

A well rounded and effective engineer in this global environment is one that complements the core technical knowledge with excellent cross-cultural competence and international exposure
