1 Cell Organelles Data Table

2 Nucleus and Cell Control
General Function Organelle Colored Diagram Description Nucleus and Cell Control Cell Wall Nucleus Nuclear Envelope Chromatin Chromosomes Nucleolus Ribosomes Cytoplasm Assembly, Transport, and Storage Endoplasmic Reticulum Golgi Apparatus Vacuole Lysosomes Mitochondria Chloroplasts Support and Locomotion Cytoskeleton Centrioles Cilia Flagella

3 Cell Wall Rigid Wall outside the plasma Membrane giving extra support.
Not found in animal cells

4 Nucleus Directs the Activities of the cell organelles.
“Brain of the Cell” Contains Genetic Material

5 Nuclear Envelope (Membrane)
Surrounds the nucleus and has thousands of pores allowing material in and out of the nucleus. Separates the nucleus from the rest of the cell.

6 Chromatin Long strands of DNA located in the nucleus.

7 Chromosomes Condensed chromatin that contains genetic information passed on to the offspring.

8 Nucleolus Makes the ribosomes inside the nucleus.

9 Ribosomes This is the site where proteins are assembled according to the DNA directions. Can be floating free in the cytoplasm or attached to the endoplasmic reticulum.

10 Cytoplasm Thick fluid outside of the nucleus. Throughout the cell
Helps with cell shape. Place of some chemical reactions.

11 Endoplasmic Reticulum
The site where lipids for membranes are assembled along with proteins. Two types; Rough and Smooth

12 Golgi Apparatus Sorts and packages proteins and materials into structures called vesicles then shipped out.

13 Vacuole Saclike structure used for storage.
Stores water, food, and enzymes Large on found in plant cells

14 Lysosomes Remove wastes using digestive enzymes.

15 Mitochondria Transforms chemical energy from food into useful energy for both plant and animal cells.

16 Chloroplasts Found in green plant cells and some protists capturing the sun’s energy and converting it to chemical energy.

17 Cytoskeleton Network of protein filaments that help keep its shape and helps with movement. protein filaments called microtubules/microfilaments.

18 Centrioles Made of microtubules and help with cell division.

19 Cilia Short hair-like projections that wave to help move cell.

20 Flagella Long Whip-like projection that aid in movement.
Cells usually just have one or two.
