What your ecosystem needs.
Your Text Here What your ecosystem needs. Build your ecosystem from as much natural materials as possible. Use soil, grass, plants and water. Your container must be water proof so nothing leaks out. You may not bring in any living animals or micro organisms so use toys or pictures to represent them. Label them. Anything from a shoe box size to a Rubbermaid storage bin is acceptable. Make it look as real as possible. Make it neat and carefully.

Model Ecosystem The name of your type of ecosystem: _______________________________ The abiotic conditions present: a. What type of water available: Fresh or salt b. Range of temperatures: Winter: ______________ Summer: _____________ c. Describe the amount of sunlight: _________________________________

d. Describe the soil conditions :(dry, rocky, sandy, moist)
3. Biotic Conditions: List any animal species present: (minimum of 10) List 5 types of plants species present: (at least 6 species) List any microorganisms present: (at least 2 use exact names.) d.

4. Create a food chain with at least 4 organisms from your model.
5. Create a food web using as many organisms from your list as possible. 6. Create a nutrient cycle for this ecosystem using the nutrient iron. 7. Describe one symbiotic relationship using two of the organisms you have already put into this ecosystem. Is this relationship commensalism, mutualism or parasitism?

8. List one predator_____________ its prey_________________
9. List two consumers ______________, ______________________ 10. List two producers _______________, ______________________ 11. List one scavenger _____________________ 12. List one decomposer ___________________ 13. Predict what would happen to the population of the predator from #8 if there was a disease that killed off most of its prey? 14. Predict what would happen to the population of the prey in #8 if there was a large number of predators born that year?

15. Create a story using one abiotic condition that would have a positive effect on one of the populations in your ecosystem. 16. Create a story to explain one biotic condition that might have a negative effect on one of the populations in your ecosystem. 17. Many ecosystems are at risk for not being sustainable, meaning it may be being slowly changed or destroyed. Describe one threat facing your type of ecosystem in Canada.
