Response to Intervention: Using Data to Modify Classroom Instruction School Summary Milwaukee Public Schools Fall, 2010 All school Learning team members attending this training are to share this information with staff. For Opt 2 and SIFI 3 schools, RtI Specialists will walk through reports also during the 1st ClasStat Workshop. Keep checking Enroll for additional trainings that will focus on Universal Screener data. Talk about funding options (blue handout) – what the requirements are for funding RtI: Need to find out when Learning Teams meet and what teacher teams (grade level, grade band, content area) are at each school, and identify which teams will participate in ClasStat for the semester. 1 WR/September 2010

Response to Intervention
Tier 3: Individualized Strategies 1-5% 5-15% Tier 2: Effective, Strategic Interventions and Progress Monitoring Tier I: Research Based Core Programs, Universal Screening 80-90% Tier I: Universal core curriculum instruction and practices ALL students receive. At any given time 80% or more of the students demonstrate sufficient progress through core academic, behavioral and social emotional instruction and/or practices. Students with special needs are also included in tier 1 instruction. All means all including Sp Ed, ELL and Gifted and Talented. Embedded triangle refers to Special Ed students…who should have exposure to core curriculum.

Studying Your Core RtI How will you know if more than 20% of your students are not responding to your Tier 1 instruction? Pose the question and move to next slide 4 August 2009

MPS EdStat OverviewMPS EdStat Training for SOS Clusters Bridging the Gap If more than 20% of your students are not responding to your Tier 1 instruction, you should study your Universal Screener data and decide: What does this mean for my whole class instruction? What does this mean for the pacing guide? What does this mean for flexible groups? What does this mean for differentiation? Use ClasStat to answer these questions Will also need to triangulate data Provide time for participants to start discussing: Think - Pair – Share to process questions Focus on what’s in our control, including our own practice – what we can do What does this mean for my whole class instruction (tier 1)? What does this mean for the pacing guide? (You can’t slow down your instruction because of student gaps, rather teachers need to increase time for the delivery of the curriculum with DIFFERENTIATION. This might mean less time spent in other academic areas. Reading block might need to be 120 minutes). What does this mean for flexible groups? How did you determine your groups? What does this mean for differentiation? (This answer can also be addressed with the answer on the pacing guide question.) 5 August 2009
