Why Attend the FLS? Congress listens to those who show up and represent their profession. PIA's presence on Capitol Hill sends a strong message to Congress that independent agents won't sit on the sidelines while important legislation moves through Congress. Agent commissions will be on the table once again in 2018. Who Should Attend? Affiliate staff PIA National Board members PIA members from each affiliate

Major Changes for 2018 Different hotel (Hilton Crystal City – located one block from the hotel we used previously) Shift in the day pattern (day one is now on Tuesday and day two is now on Wednesday) FEMA Session on Flood Insurance has been added to Tuesday afternoon immediately prior to the FLS Issues Briefing FLS Issues Briefing (Tuesday afternoon) will also include a workshop session PIAPAC Reception has moved to day two (Wednesday) and will be at the Capitol Hill Club from 4-6 pm One-Way Bus Transportation is provided on Wednesday morning from the hotel to Capitol Hill and again on Wednesday evening from the Capitol Hill Club (following the PIAPAC Reception) back to the Hotel.

Prepare Before You Attend
Contact office to set up meetings 3 weeks in advance. Ask for time period between 10:00am-4:00pm but be flexible with scheduling. Meet ahead of time with your FLS attendees to decided how to divvy up meetings. Decide which issues you want to prioritize for the meeting. Plan to attend the issues briefing on Tuesday April 24.

Repeal the FIO PIA National is calling on policymakers to fully repeal the Federal Insurance Office (FIO) as part of any financial regulatory reform package.

Flood Insurance Program Was set to Expire September 30, 2017.
Now on 5th short term extension until March 23rd Long term reauthorization and oppose any cut to WYO reimbursement rate that does not protect agent commissions

Crop Insurance Congress is expected to begin action on the next Farm Bill in March and April. PIA will continue to build support for the continuing role of the agent in delivering the crop insurance program.

Health Insurance Protecting Agent Commissions, which PIA believes were improperly classified as administrative cost in the medical loss ratio (MLR) formula Repeal of the Cadillac tax provision of the ACA, which would impose a 40% excise tax on so-called “overly generous” health plans
