4 The Industrial Revolution
Discuss reasons for the statement in the Textbook on page 21 ‘Before the Industrial Revolution, 80 per cent of the population lived in the countryside and only 20 per cent in cities … By 1850, 80 per cent of people in Britain were living in a major city or town.’ Hint: Use pages as a guide.

5 The Agricultural Revolution
The Agricultural Revolution included the reallocation of land ownership to make farms more compact and an increased investment in technical improvements, such as new machinery, better drainage etc. The agricultural revolution was an essential prelude to the Industrial Revolution.

6 To-Do Create a poster which either supports or rejects the idea of enclosure (i.e. Removing small tenants from their land and creating large farms). Use information from pages to support your poster. Create a small brief in your textbook to explain what your poster is trying to convey to the audience. Enclosures: The act of legally seizing public land by putting a barrier around it – aiming to improve farming techniques and productivity.
