A vesicle that buds from the ER can add its membrane and the contents of its lumen to the cis face by fusing with a Golgi membrane.

3. FUNCTION
Active in synthesis, modification, sorting, and secretion of cell products
Products of the ER are modified and stored and then sent to other destinations
Modification of proteins, carbohydrates on proteins, and phospholipids; synthesis of many polysaccharides; sorting of Golgi products, which are then released in vesicles
Manufactures pectins and some lysosomes
