Circle Unit Notes AA1 CC
2
Circle The set of all points in a plane that are equidistant from a given point called the CENTER of the circle. A circle is named by its center. K
3
A segment whose endpoints are the center and any point on the circle
Radius A segment whose endpoints are the center and any point on the circle
4
A segment whose endpoints are on a circle.
Chord A segment whose endpoints are on a circle.
5
A chord that contains the center of the circle.
Diameter A chord that contains the center of the circle.
6
A line that intersects a circle in two points.
Secant A line that intersects a circle in two points.
7
Tangent A line in the plane of a circle that intersects the circle in exactly one point, the point of tangency.
8
Summary
9
An angle whose vertex is the center of the circle.
Central Angle An angle whose vertex is the center of the circle.
10
Inscribed Angle An angle whose vertex is on a circle and whose sides contain chords of the circle
11
An arc with endpoints that are the endpoints of a diameter
Semicircle An arc with endpoints that are the endpoints of a diameter (1/2 a circle)
12
A part of its circumference.
Arc A part of its circumference.
13
Types of Arcs Minor Arc- An arc that is less than 180 degrees.
Major Arc- An arc that is greater than180 degrees
14
A sector is the part of a circle between two radii and an arc.
