1 CO-LAB Department: Mechanical & Piping Thursday 29th March 2018
(Co-worker Collaboration) “Great things in business are never done by one person, they are done by a team of people.” – Steve Jobs Department: Mechanical & Piping

2 The M&P Team The Team What We Do Jamie McLaughlin – Lead Engineer
Colin Lochhead – Mechanical Engineer William Watt, Martin Duignan, Jake Williamson, Mark McGeown, David Bartlett – Piping Designers Stuart Thomas & Jamie Dick – Graduate Mechanical Engineers What We Do Mechanical design, pipework design, pipe stress analysis, mechanical specification and procurement support. Mechanical supply, fabrication and install.

3 What are we currently working on? Any project highlights?
Key Projects DSM – Methanol Recovery Upgrade, Tank Farm 10/11 Switchroom Upgrade, Cooling Tower Water Pipework Replacement, Hexane Abatement, Methanol FEED Filter replacement. Merck – LM LTHW Boiler Replacement Upgrade SSE – Tromie Fish Pass Modifications Do you have a particularly impressive or innovative project that has been carried out within your department? Methanol Recovery Upgrade – first major piping design project.

4 What are our future ambitions for the department
What are our future ambitions for the department? What is on the horizon? How do we see digitalisation and innovation strengthening the department/ways of working? Taking on more M&P based projects allowing the team to expand. Implementing more expansive expertise in software such as stress analysis, CAD etc. This could improve time efficiency and quality of outputs. Could allow required changes to be implemented faster. Details of areas where collaboration opportunities have been identified. Most projects M&P work on have collaboration with other Engineering departments (ie. Process, Instruments, etc.) AR/VR utilisation for surveying new jobs and improving working efficiency.

5 How do we plan to embrace the new E, C & I theme?
How will Engagement, Collaboration & Innovation be adopted within our department? Continued utilisation of different disciplines within Booth Welsh to support new projects. Utilisation of the Virtual/Augmented reality capabilities being developed within Booth Welsh. An idea of this was to link a PDF application to VR and use this as a drawing checking tool with the capability present to mark up drawings. Creating a virtual model of a site area in order to virtually view an area without leaving the office. What could be done to help with this? Identifying new technologies and software packages which can improve working efficiency and quality of output. Exploring the capabilities of hardware and how these can be implemented.
