Self Sustaining Eco Biomes
{Ecosystems
2
What is the Problem? 197 million square miles of Earths surface
57 million square miles of the surface is land Only 12 million square miles (7.68 billion acres) of usable land (not rugged mountains, deserts, alpine, etc.)
3
What is the Problem? Today the human population is over 7.3 billion people and each person requires about 1-2 acres (only 0.50 for vegetarians) to produce enough food and water to sustain them. Therefore, Earth is rapidly reaching its maximum sustainability for the human population.
4
What is the Problem? The big question is, what do we do with the growing population?
5
Your Mission Earth will not be able to continue to sustain a growing human population. This has forced governmental officials and scientists to look for alternate suitable habitats for larger populations. This will cost mankind trillions of dollars to execute. Therefore, scientists need to ensure that creating alternative ecosystems and new worlds, is an option.
6
Your Mission You and your team will design a biome what will allow organisms to exists interdependently and provide a habitat for humans, thus sustaining them indefinitely. You and your team need to create an enclosed system that house, feed and sustain a small-scale system. Therefore, your team needs to research information about biomes and the interdependent relationships of organisms.
7
Answer with your Team What is the problem you are trying to solve?
Is your team going to terraforming a planet? Create an EcoStation like Wall-e? Or something else? What is the current research: Human Overpopulation Current technology that you may be able to use in your solution What is the feasibility of the human population being able to implement your ideas What are the limitations of your systems? What problems do you predict? And possible solutions to these problems Team biome design (includes: interactions between species, energy cycles, and sustainability)
