Components of Fitness: Health vs Performance related?
Health-related fitness impact the quality of life. These will have a physiological nature and include: Cardio-respiratory fitness (aerobic capacity, VO2 max). This concerns with ability to provide energy aerobically. Take in, absorption and use oxygen.
4
Components of Fitness: Health vs Performance related?
Muscular endurance is seen as maintaining continued contractions against low or moderate resistance.
5
Components of Fitness: Health vs Performance related?
Strength is a force effectiveness of a single muscle contraction. This depends on volume and muscle fiber type.
6
Components of Fitness: Health vs Performance related?
Flexibility of joints and their associated tissues. This concerns the range of motion (ROM) around joint.
7
Components of Fitness: Health vs Performance related?
Body composition is the proportional segmentation of your body weight. Focus is on lean (fat free mass: FFM) and fat constituents (fat mass: FM).

Components of Fitness: Health vs Performance related?
Performance/skill-related fitness is desirable in sporting activities but their deficiency will not negatively impact your health. This includes more neuromuscular related qualities: Agility is the ability to rapidly change direction and speed incorporating elements of acceleration and deceleration.
10
Components of Fitness: Health vs Performance related?
Balance (stability) is the maintenance of static and dynamic equilibrium of the body parts as well as the whole. This concerns the center of mass over base support.
11
Components of Fitness: Health vs Performance related?
Coordination is the ability to perform a range of simple to complex movements with precision, timing and continuity. This depends on the interaction of the motor and nervous systems. Exercise
12
Components of Fitness: Health vs Performance related?
Power is the ability to achieve optimal force development of your voluntary muscles in a minimum time period. It is the rate of doing work: strength + speed.
13
Components of Fitness: Health vs Performance related?
Reaction is the ability to recruit selected neuromuscular responses with minimum time delay. Relates to time between the presentation of stimulus and response.
14
Components of Fitness: Health vs Performance related?
Speed is change of distance over time.
15
NOTE: Some components of performance- related fitness such as agility, balance, coordination may become health-related in elderly and those suffering from hypokinetic disease. Performance related fitness: ABC Oh! and PRS
