2 Unit 5 Vocabulary Suitor- a man who courts a woman.
The father was waiting a proper suitor for his daughter Asunder- into parts or pieces. Hurricane Matthew ripped Florida asunder. Quell-suppress or crush completely. The army quelled their opponents attempts at a counter attack. Heir- a person entitled by law to inherit the estate of another. The King’s son was the heir to the throne. Renown-the state or quality of being widely honored or acclaimed. The Beetles were world renowned musicians.

Yonder- distant but within sight. The finish line was over yonder. Interrogate- pose a series of questions. The travelers were interrogated by the police when they crossed the border. Clamorous- conspicuously and offensively loud. The student section was clamorous during the football game. Insolent-marked by casual disrespect. Nobody enjoys insolent waiters at a restaurant. Soothsayer- someone who makes predictions of the future. Somebody who wants to know the future may seek the help of a soothsayer.

Valor- courage when facing danger. The soldiers fought with valor. Virtuous- morally excellent. The teenager was virtuous in her decision to not cheat on the test Glutton- a person who is devoted to eating and drinking to excess. A glutton may need to be admitted to rehab for drinking too much. Audacity-aggressive boldness or unmitigated effrontery. Some people have the audacity to say harsh things to people. Lucid-transparently clear; easily understandable. The boy was quite lucid with his dislike for the girl.

Desolation- sadness resulting from being forsaken or abandoned. The community felt desolated after the government abandoned them. Infallible- incapable of failure or error. We try our best to be infallible when we play sports Ruffian- a cruel and brutal fellow. The gang members were trying to be ruffians. Succumb- be fatally overwhelmed. When deadlines are near, people tend to succumb to the pressure. Versatile- changeable or inconstant. Companies are looking for people to be more versatile within their job.
