Geography Oman is located in the Middle East, underneath the U.A.E and to the right of Saudi Arabia It is slightly smaller than Kansas Central desert and rugged mountains in the north and south

Islam spreads to Oman ( A.D.) Portuguese explorers discover and colonize Oman Oman was of strategic importance in controlling shipping routes Ottoman control, Yemeni tribes, Persian invasion Prosperous trading period Limited British Protectorate ( ) Qaboos bin Said Al Said takes power and creates the sultanate

Government Monarchy No constitution but there is a royal decree that outlines basic law and civil rights 5 regions, 3 governorates Executive branch consists of the sultan and a prime minister Legislative branch is bicameral with one house being elected by the people There is a Supreme Court The system is based on Sharia law and English common law
