2 The Day of Pentecost

3 Note: This is the climax of Peter’s sermon
Note: This is the climax of Peter’s sermon. He has quoted from THREE different portions of Scripture and has built the case that JESUS is the Christ (the long awaited Messiah.)

4 Note: These Jews whose consciences were stirred knew there was something they should “do” in response to Peter’s castigation about Israel having CRUCIFIED their Messiah.

5 Note: The false doctrine that teaches that you can’t get SAVED unless you have been BAPTIZED according to Acts 2:38 is inconsistent when you consider the following on what the Bible is actually teaching here:

6 1. The question asked is, “WHAT SHALL WE DO
1. The question asked is, “WHAT SHALL WE DO ?” They are not asking how to be saved. They are asking Peter for advice on what to do as a nation on a bad decision that they made. 2. The question here isn’t asked by a GENTILE group. It is asked by the “HOUSE OF ISRAEL” (v.36) in regards to a national solution.

7 5. Now they had to “do” something to PROVE their repentance.
3. Water baptism and repentance were only a TEMPORARY means of receiving the gift of the Holy Ghost. 4. Their repentance and water baptism did not SAVE them. When the text uses the term, “for the remission of sins,” it means “BECAUSE” your sins have been remitted. 5. Now they had to “do” something to PROVE their repentance.

8 8. Not one of the 12 APOSTLES was baptized according to Acts 2:38.
6. Sins being remitted is a reference to God’s forgiveness of those sins in the Old Testament (Exodus 34:7) and His lack of full “REDEMPTION” until the blood of Christ was shed as a payment. 7. They are all pointing to this PAST forgiveness of sins and have nothing to do with any FUTURE sins being forgiven. 8. Not one of the 12 APOSTLES was baptized according to Acts 2:38.

9 Note: The context here is ISRAEL, and the Jews scattered throughout the countries are the ones who were “afar off.” Dan 9:7 O Lord, righteousness belongeth unto thee, but unto us confusion of faces, as at this day; to the men of Judah, and to the inhabitants of Jerusalem, and unto all Israel, that are near, and that are far off, through all the countries whither thou hast driven them, because of their trespass that they have trespassed against thee.

10 Note: Peter was not telling them to save themselves from HELL
Note: Peter was not telling them to save themselves from HELL. They were to separate themselves from a group of people who have rejected Christ and were responsible for His death. Mat 23: Wherefore, behold, I send unto you prophets, and wise men, and scribes: and some of them ye shall kill and crucify; and some of them shall ye scourge in your synagogues, and persecute them from city to city: That upon you may come all the righteous blood shed upon the earth, from the blood of righteous Abel unto the blood of Zacharias son of Barachias, whom ye slew between the temple and the altar. Verily I say unto you, All these things shall come upon this generation.

11 Note: This was the beginning of the “MAIN HARVEST” for the N.T. Church
THE NEW BORN CHURCH Note: This was the beginning of the “MAIN HARVEST” for the N.T. Church Note: Because these believers had “all things common” because they were anticipating Christ’s IMMINENT return. Note: Notice that there is no mention of the 120 disciples of Acts 1:15 or the newly converted 3,000 of Acts 2:41 doing any of these “wonders and signs”- just the APOSTLES!

12 THE NEW BORN CHURCH Note: They continued this practice until they were finally SCATTERED in Acts 8:1 because of the persecution that came Note: An example of modern usage of the word SHOULD would be, “If you should go down to the store, would you pick up such and such.”
