2. Winter Preparation Have floor mats at exterior door ways
The winter season is not far off, and we must be prepared. Not only is it important to prepare our vehicles, and obtain winter footwear, but also to adjust our walking and driving habits to accommodate slippery conditions. Some helpful pointers to avoid a winter related incident:
Preparation:
Have floor mats at exterior door ways
Have sand available at substations and construction locations
Make sure you have a windshield scraper
Keeping sand in your vehicle is a good idea

3. Winter Preparation Driving: Maintain your vehicle
Check tires, brakes, defroster, heater, and windshield wipers/blades
Slow down & don’t jam your brakes
Use your headlights (and keep them clean)
Adjust your following distances
Drive defensively and be alert
Maintain three points of contact when exiting vehicle

4. Winter Preparation Slips, Trips, and Falls:
Wear proper footwear (see the following slides on stock codes)
Scan the area ahead
Use handrails or supports when provided
Watch out for “black ice” and icy spots

5. Winter Preparation Hypothermia and Frostbite:
Avoid extremely cold exposure for long periods of time
Stay dry and take frequent breaks
Wear several layers of loose clothing
Cover exposed skin
If affected, re-warm slowly

6. Winter Preparation Snow Shoveling:
If you are not generally physically active, ask for help
Don’t over exert yourself
Don’t take full shovel loads of wet snow
Take frequent breaks
Switch hands
