3. Let’s practice calculating density!
25 grams of salami
5 mL
= density of 5g/mL
16 grams of cheese
8 cubic cm.
= density of 2g/cm3
Salami is more dense than Cheese!

4. We can use DENSITY to identify
one element from another.
Each cube is the same size,
but has different masses and densities
because of what they are made of!

5. One of these is not gold... Real Gold Fool’s Gold density = 19.3

6. We can also compare density without calculating it:
Dense matter sinks
in water, while
less dense floats
above it!

7. It is the same for gases: Hydrogen and Helium are less dense
than Oxygen, so they float! H He
Carbon dioxide (our breath) is more
dense than Oxygen, so it sinks!

8. The density of water is 1g/cm3
*Objects with a density greater than 1g/cm3 will SINK in water.
*Objects with a density less than 1g/cm3 will FLOAT in water.
