BULLYING IS… Hurting another person, or group, on purpose, usually more than once Bullying can involve using violence, hurtful words or ganging up to make another person feel helpless It can happen face-to-face or via social media
8
ACTS OF BULLYING CAN INCLUDE…
Name-calling Dares – making someone do something they don’t want to Mocking differences Making threats Ignoring people and leaving them out Pressurising others to join in inappropriate behaviour
9
REPORTING BULLYING - IF YOU’RE A WITNESS
Report it to a coach or club welfare officer (CWO) Write it down and hand it to the CWO or someone else you trust Don’t allow it to happen
10

Tell someone – a coach, CWO, parents or other adults that you trust Write down what has happened and give it to the CWO or Coach or someone you trust Do not just put up with it

CRAIG’S STORY My name is Craig and I’m 12 years old. I struggle a bit at rugby and find it difficult to concentrate, especially in games
12
The other kids at rugby, they started calling me names and laughing at me. The Coaches never told them to stop it, so I just tried to block it out.
13
It didn’t bother me at first, but then they called me it again and again. Over and over. I thought they were my friends but it’s hard to tell sometimes.
14
- How can name calling affect someone?
- What types of name calling is there? - Why does Craig pretend that he is ok? - What should the Coach have done in that situation? - Is name calling acceptable in our club?
15

WHAT CAN WE DO? HOW DOES OUR CLUB MAKE SURE THAT EVERYONE CAN BE INCLUDED IN WHAT WE DO? IN OUR TEAM HOW CAN WE MAKE SURE THAT CHILDREN ARE NOT BULLIED? ARE THERE THINGS WE NEED TO DO TO MAKE SURE OUR TEAM OR CLUB SUPPORTS CHILDREN WHO ARE DIFFERENT? IN OUR TEAM, HOW CAN WE MAKE SURE THAT EVERYONE IS INCLUDED?
17
OUR CLUB… All players have the right to feel safe in our club
Nobody has the right to make others feel bad We need to work together to make sure that bullying is something that isn’t tolerated and doesn’t happen in our club We want to be proud of our club and team and proud that we all treat each other with respect
18
WORDS ARE SEEDS Words are seeds they do more than blow around.
They land in our hearts and not the ground. Be careful what you plant and careful what you say. You might have to eat what you planted one day
