1 Army Dentistry’s Preventive / Wellness / Readiness Initiative
Information Briefing GO FIRST CLASS Army Dentistry’s Preventive / Wellness / Readiness Initiative UNCLASSIFIED

2 GFC Foundations Prevention Wellness Readiness FIRST GO CLASS
The Go First Class initiative is based on three pillars: -- Prevention -- Readiness and -- Wellness Each of these are integral to the Army Medicine 2020 campaign and help transition oral care from a health care system, to a system of health.

3 What is GFC? Bundled exam, cleaning, and initial treatment
Emphasis on scheduled appointments vs. walk-ins In a nutshell, GFC bundles three appointments into one. As part of the initiative, Soldiers can expect to receive a dental exam, cleaning, and simple treatments in a single visit. To help support this, clinics are increasing their emphasis on scheduled appointments vs. walk ins or block exams.

4 It’s About Time Less travel time Less waiting time More unit time
At its core, “Go First Class” is about time. Soldiers spend less time traveling to and waiting for appointments. This allows for more time to be spent in their units.

5 Prevention Cleanings Hygiene instruction Fluoride treatments
Tooth varnish Tobacco counseling Oral cancer screening Other objective of CFC include an increased focus on wellness. In addition to an exam, Soldiers can expect to receive other benefits such as: Cleanings Oral hygiene guidance Tooth varnish Fluoride treatments Tobacco counseling and Oral Cancer screenings These services are intended to improve Soldier health and reduce future care requirements.

6 Readiness Goals ≥ 95% compo I ready to deploy
≥ 90% completed appointments ≥ 95% patient satisfaction Readiness is important to every commander. In order to be deployable, a Soldiers must be in dental class two – which means they only need minor dental care. GFC’s goal is to ensure that 95% of active duty Soldiers are dentally deployable, while improving patient satisfaction. As a result of the initiative, most Soldiers will be deployable after a single visit.

7 Wellness Less likely to become undeployable Less future care required
Better quality of life The ultimate goal of GFC is wellness. By bringing Soldiers to class one or “first class” (no dental treatment needs) they are much less likely to return to a non deployable status. Less time in the clinic means more time in the unit and an enhanced quality of life.

8 How You Can Help Proactively schedule appointments
Ensure appointments are kept Share information on GFC with your peers You play and important role in helping the initiative succeed: All employees are encouraged to work with their dental liaison to proactively schedule appointments. Once scheduled, its important to keep them. Each failed appointment results in approximately $400 in lost productivity. Lastly, Soldiers are encouraged to share information about Go First Class with their peers. Slide 8 of 9
