3 What is Big Ideas? Research based for Common Core State Standards
Students will have an exploratory day and then have direct instruction the next. Students will develop ideas before learning the standard algorithms. Students are learning how to effectively communicate their ideas before learning the standard algorithms. Ron Larson is the author of this curriculum who also wrote many textbooks that parents used as students. Student Journal, Textbook, Online resources

4 Access Textbook Online
Open up a search engine and visit the lkstevens.wednet.edu. Click on the Clever Option/Big Ideas.

5 Student Dynamic eBook The students can access their textbook through Student Dynamic eBook which is located under the Resources tab.

6 Textbook Online Student can explore the textbook by clicking on the contents button on the left side.

7 Self-Assessments Students are able to access self-assessments by right-clicking on the “Check It Out” button in the upper right hand corner. This option is only available on quizzes and tests.

8 What do Self-Assessment Look Like?
Self-assessments are for the students to practice their skills. Their scores are not sent to the teachers. Use this resource as a study guide.

9 Stop & Practice Working with your child, use the next 5 minutes to navigate the first row of “tiles” on your students Resource page on Big Ideas. Can you find: the Dynamic eBook Chapter they are currently in Quizzes and Chapter Tests the link to practice quizzes and tests

10 Homework/Assignments
Students can access their homework by clicking on the Assignments tab on the top of their page. This will provide a one week calendar.

11 Assignments: Important Reminders
When a student is working on an assignment, have them save as often as possible. The save action is underneath their name which is located on the top right hand corner. Clicking on “Save and Exit” will not submit your work. You will need to click on the “Submit” button. Once they submit their work, they are not able to go back any make any corrections. When working online, students will get a green box for the correct answer and a red box for an incorrect answer. We ask students to keep working until they receive a green box. Students also have a “Help” option and a “Live Tutor” option to help them solve the problem. The “Live Tutor” is only available from 4pm to Midnight and only for certain problems.

12 Stop & Practice Working with your child, use the next 5 minutes to navigate to the Assignments page on Big Ideas. Can you find: the Assignments button a homework assignment a few problems to try. Check out the colored boxes the help button the tutor link

13 Reports Students are able to access reports for their assignments, quizzes and tests. Reports is the third tab on the top of their page.

14 Using Reports Students can access a detailed report. They will be given a PDF worksheet and a video to watch in order to review their mistakes and practice.

15 Video Tutorials Video Tutorials are accessed through either assignments or through reports. Students can watch a tutorial if they are stuck on their homework or after they receive the report once homework is submitted.

16 Online Tutor Online Tutors are a option when the teacher assigns the assignment. Tutors are available only after school hours from 4:00pm to Midnight. Students can type a message to the tutor for help. We recommend access the tutor after the students has tried several times on their own to solve a problem and has also watched the tutorial.

17 Stop & Practice Working with your child, use the next 5 minutes to navigate to the Reports page on Big Ideas. Can you find: an assignment, quiz, or test. a PDF file a tutorial a few more problems to investigate

18 Extra Practice: Skills Review Handbook
One resource is the Skills Practice which is located under the Resources tab. Students are able to print off a page of extra work and also print off the answers to check their work.

19 Skills Review Handbook
The Skills Practice will walk the student through the process of solving the problem. Students are able to revisit the skill.

20 Extra Practice: Basic Skills Handbook
If students are still struggling after working on the Skills Review, they may need to visit the Basic Skills tile which is located under the Resources tab.

21 Basic Skills Handbook Students are able to print off a worksheet and an answer key to check their work. Basic Skills Handbook provides worksheets for practice.

22 Stop & Practice Working with your child, use the next 5 minutes to navigate to the Reports page on Big Ideas. Can you find: the Skill Review Handbook a specific skill and open up an exercise the answer key the Basic Skills Handbook a specific skills and open up an exercise
