Youth Activities Program Goals
Youth Groups Supporting Our Veterans National Citation Sponsoring and Working with Youth Groups Random Acts of Patriotism (R.A.P.) Creating a Contest for Students in Grades 1 – 5.

Youth Activities Awards
Award to one youth group in each Program Division with an outstanding project submitted to the Youth Group Supporting Our Veterans citations. Will be mailed to the sponsoring Auxiliary for presentation.

“Believe We Can Do It” VFW Store Gift Certificate to one Department Chairmen in each Program Division for the best promotion of creating a contest for students in grades 1-5.

AMERICAN FLAG POETRY OR ESSAY CONTEST (SAMPLE CONTEST) The American Flag Poetry or Essay Program was presented by VFW Auxiliary Department of Alaska President Val Whiteman ( ) and adopted in 1968 by the Department of Alaska VFW Auxiliary.

AMERICAN FLAG POETRY OR ESSAY CONTEST (SAMPLE CONTEST) Any student in grades 1 through 8 may enter. The contest is broken down in six (6) groups*: Group 1 – Grade 1 Group 4 – Grade 4 Group 2 – Grade 2 Group 5 – Grades 5 & 6 Group 3 – Grade 3 Group 6 – Grades 7 & 8 *Special education student contest is also broken down in six groups.

AMERICAN FLAG POETRY OR ESSAY CONTEST (SAMPLE CONTEST) IT MUST BE AN ORIGINAL POEM OR ESSAY ABOUT THE AMERICAN FLAG COMPOSED SOLELY BY THE STUDENT WITH NO CORRECTIONS IN SPELLING OR PUNCTUATION MARKS. Note: Typewritten poems or essays will be accepted only from handicapped, blind, etc., children. Students name, address, school, grade and teacher’s name must be on the back or the poem or essay will be disqualified. All poems or essays will be submitted to a local Auxiliary for judging. AMERICAN FLAG POETRY OR ESSAY CONTEST (SAMPLE CONTEST) The winning entries will not be returned and will be the property of the Department of Alaska Auxiliary to the Veterans of Foreign Wars. Results of State judging shall be completed by April 15 – NO EXCEPTIONS. STATE AWARDS IN EACH OF THE SIX (6) GROUPS ARE: First Place $20 Second Place $15 Third Place $10
