11/14/2018 Last lesson we covered Types of business: Primary, Secondary and Tertiary sector For homework you defined: Local, national and global sector Public, Private and Voluntary sector Primary sector – involves extracting raw products from nature Secondary sector - involves transforming raw products into finished or part finished goods. Tertiary sector – involves providing services to individuals and businesses Ask questions on definitions of each sector and also examples. Local – e.g. Moby golf Kingdom – there is only one & it’s local e.g. Currys PC World – many stores all over the UK e.g Nandos all over the country and abroad Marks and Spencers and Body shop started off local and are now global. Local sector – a business operating in your local town Global sector – a business that is operating across the globe in many countries. National sector – a business that is operating in outlets all over Britain. Public sector – Those that have been set up or taken over by the government. Private sector – those that are owned by private citizens. Voluntary sector – Not for profit and is set up, organised, staffed and run by people who are working purely on a voluntary basis, usually for a good cause.

Apple Not for profit organisations – run on business lines (tries to use their money efficiently as possible) and has many paid workers but it does not seek to make a profit - e.g. Medecins sans Frontieres Challenge: why does MSF exist?
