All writing has purpose.
Authors have different reasons why they write. --to entertain --to inform --to persuade --to give instructions How do you know what type of writing you are supposed to produce? As a reader, how can you recognize what the author’s purpose is? Always keep in mind, as a writer you MUST think as a reader.

Let's look at the different kinds of paragraphs…
Narrative paragraphs tell stories. Persuasive paragraphs are made to argue a point. The author wants to convince the reader of something. Expository paragraphs are informative. The author wants the reader to learn something, but they are not meant to be biased. On the left side of your notebook… Where would you expect to find these different types of paragraphs?

Let's practice! Identify the type of paragraph. Underline or highlight the words or sentences that helped you identify the type of paragraph. THEN…EXPLAIN how the words/sentences that you underlined or highlighted connect to the type of paragraph. Justify your answer!
