Figure 1 Role of the MAPK pathway in liver carcinogenesis. The authors performed genome-wide CRISPR/CAS 9 screening in liver progenitor cells subcutaneously implanted in nude mice. Genetic analysis of the tumor and subsequent in vivo and in vitro experiments validated the role of neurofibromatosis type 1 (NF1) as a tumor suppressor gene, and the RAS/RAF/MAPK pathway as a key signaling pathway in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) development. Percentages of mutations in human HCC are shown in blue for tumor suppressor genes and red for oncogenes; potential biotherapy is shown in purple.
