3. Old to New Curriculum
Maths – huge changes from Primary Framework 2006 to new NC2014
Maths – knowledge and skills have moved up and down year groups or in some cases are no longer explicitly required in the new Programme of Study
Huge impact on the children who have been taught the old curriculum and now under the new – gaps in knowledge could develop, higher expectations slows down progress

4. Old to New Curriculum Which year group do you think these belong to?
Read numerals to 100 and write numerals 0 to 20 in words and position numbers correctly on a number line – Year 1
(was Year 2)
Use a calculator to carry out 1 and 2 step calculations involving all 4 operations – KS3
More emphasis in KS2 on mental skills

5. Old to New Curriculum Which year group do you think these belong to?
Add and subtract numbers using concrete objects and mentally, including a 2 digit number and ones, a 2 digit number and tens, two 2 digit numbers and three 1 digit numbers – Year 2
Was Year 3
Add and subtract using4 digits using the formal column methods - Year 4
Was Year 5
Know times tables up to 12 x 12 and inverses – Year 4
Was end of KS2 and up to 10 x 10

6. Old to New Curriculum English – changes in terminology and structure
Speaking and Listening is now Spoken Language which is no longer broken down into year groups but a list of statements encompassing years 1 through to 6
Reading is now broken down into Word Reading (phonics, word building, decoding) and Comprehension (pleasure for reading and listening and discussing texts)
Less focus on non-fiction reading materials

7. Old to New Curriculum
Writing – Transcription and Handwriting - grammar, punctuation and spelling (phonics awareness and word building)
SPAG – spelling, punctuation and grammar skills lessons more usual due to new demands on pupils knowledge and understanding of a long glossary of associated words and testing
Writing – Composition – planning, drafting and writing, evaluating and editing, proof reading and finally reading aloud and sharing

10. Age Related Expectations (ARE)
Always been there but previously measured by levels – end of Year 2 an expected average child will be a level 2b and at the end of Year 4 a level 3b and Year 6 a level 4b.
Key skills for each year group or part of a key stage (lower or upper)
Language – emerging, developing, secure or mastery (links with EYFS assessment)
Will be some professional judgement

11. Information sharing with parents
Year 2 parents this year will be given levels under the old NC
Other year groups will be assessed against new markers emerging, developing, secure and mastery and these are split in two using the + sign
Children were base-lined at the start of the academic year to show progress against new programmes of study
At Dodford the staff are still using old levels to track attainment and progress as they are benchmarks for the older children

12. Information sharing with parents
Tracking and target setting procedures have been re-designed in school to meet new NC
Tracking sheets for English and Maths will be kept by staff to record assessments and progress and these will be passed on each year
Reading, writing and maths targets will be kept by the children but also shared with parents at appropriate times of the year
Be mindful of the changes in higher expectations from the old to the new NC – nationally many children will still need to meet aspects of the previous years ARE, don’t judge like for like!!
