1 Welcome! March 2nd, 2018 Friday

2 and placed me on a gurney.
© Presto Plans Read the paragraph below and find examples of metaphor, simile, onomatopoeia, personification, oxymoron and/or alliteration. My drive to work is usually quite uneventful, but today was a totally different story. I was driving on Coverdale Road, when, out of nowhere, a ruby red Cadillac jumped out in front of me. Although I thought I was driving at a snail’s pace, it was clear the car was in some distress. The loud crash rang in my ears for a few minutes afterwards. I didn’t think I was hurt too badly, but when a small crowd began to gather, and I heard concerned whispers, I wasn’t so sure. When I put my hand to my bloody head and it hurt, I was horrified. A paramedic pulled me from my Pontiac and placed me on a gurney.

3 Animal Farm – Chapter 1 Let’s dive into reading!
Today, we’re going to read the first chapter of Animal Farm. As we read, I’ll go slowly and stop often. Feel free to annotate as we read – it’ll help you on our final test 

4 Animal Farm – Chapter 1 After reading Old Major’s speech, complete the close reading activity by yourself or with a partner. The handout will walk you through a close reading of Old Major’s speech and a close reading of Karl Marx’s “Communist Manifesto.” Make sure you read each question carefully. Once you’ve completed the packet, your goal will be to complete the author’s purpose activity. Follow the steps outlined on your handout to find textual evidence that supports the idea that the author based Old Major off of Karl Marx. Don’t forget about your writing prompt on the bottom! Your prompt should be hand-written on the back of your handout.

5 Animal Farm – Chapter 1 IXL: F.5, F.6, F.7
Finish reading the chapter on your own! Also, you’ll be able to fill out 4 terms on your allegory chart. Keep an eye out for anything in the text that could symbolize: Karl Marx Marxism L’Internationale Vladimir Lenin
