Strong pre-existing care culture- SST/PSB-effective anti-bullying programme /HSLC ‘A key strength was the respectful rapport between teachers and students and among students themselves’….. ‘A very strong and cohesive student support structure exists’……. ‘A professional and caring teaching staff supports and fosters the students’ holistic development’

Bottom Up approach using the Wellbeing Guidlelines to support implementation 3 fulltime qualified PE teachers Agreed to teach CSPE, PE and SPHE to 1st, 2nd and 3rd years in Sept 2016 Studied Draft Guidelines and CSPE and SPHE Curricula

Wellbeing journey “Wellbeing” from the start
Constant collaboration supported by digital tools Began Short Course implementation March 2017 Delivered short courses Sept 2017 Organised activities to promote wellbeing and CSPE/SPHE/PE links- Called “Wellbeing” from the start, began to be recognised as a defined curriculum area Constant collaboration between the teachers, formally, informally, supported by digital tools and CPD (Wellbeing day –Ger Halbert/SPHE/Short Course Assessment NCCA/JCT Short Course days/Friends for Life) Taught SPHE/CSPE/ PE from the old courses then Began Short Course implementation March 2017 Ready to deliver JC Short Couse in SPHE/CSPE and PE in Sept Following short courses as recm. In guidelines Orgnised activities to promote links between CSPE/SPHE and PE eg Santa Run as CSPE Action Project

WELLBEING JOURNEY Planned for extra 40 minutes Developed Lifeskills course-used criteria from Guidelines Generated ideas from staff Surveyed Students Agreed 4 modules, teachers teaching each course designed their programmes over the summer for delivery in September 2017

Whole school endeavour
Committee-24 volunteers to be part of Wellbeing committee Workshop presented by PE Teachers. Survey completed by all staff covering all aspects of WB Very positive response reflecting the advantages of bottom-up approach Chose 3 primary areas on which to work-Healthy Eating-Clean School Environment-Staff Wellbeing Day Staff given a guideline document based on the Wellbeing Indicators to be used as a tool to promote Wellbeing in the Classroom

WELLBEING IN Our Classrooms
Wellbeing Indicators displayed in all classrooms helping teachers to view the learning in their classrooms through a wellbeing lens Teachers constantly referencing these particularly in relation to Respect/Responsibility Maths department using Resilience as a theme to encourage students not to give up when solving problems Whole school activities- Using reflection sheets based on the Wellbeing Indicators e.g. Athletics

Mood Boards, Battelle for Kids and Growth Mindset posters to encourage positive learning experiences for our students Wellbeing corner in French Room All subject departments organise activities outside the classroom to support learning in the classroom- eg Cooking demonstrations, Fundraising for charity, Maths Week, Quiz days All subject departments have a paragraph on that subjects’ approach to Wellbeing in their department plan

Involved in BOM training Wellbeing Survey 1st years Evaluation and Reflection in May CPD being completed by teachers in areas such as FFL, Alcohol, Lockers etc Timetable for Second and Third Year being planned Wellbeing Newsletter- one per term celebrating student achievements within and outside of school/giving lifestyle tips and advice Involved in BOM training for Wellbeing for all Kerry ETB BOM Evaluation and Reflection in May on all aspects of Wellbeing Wellbeing Survey to be completed by all First year students Assessment tools to be developed- moving CSPE off the exam timetable and working on portfolio items CPD being completed by teachers in areas such as FFL, Alcohol, Lockers etc Timetable for Second and Third Year being planned Wellbeing Newsletter- one per term celebrating student achievements within and outside of school/giving lifestyle tips and advice New modules to be designed for Lifeskills

Assessment tools to be developed e.g. moving CSPE off the exam timetable and students working on projects, presentations, posters, pamphlets and reflections Reporting will be based on discussions with students and parents New modules to be designed for Lifeskills

We in Causeway Comprehensive are firmly committed to our vision of Wellbeing. We will continue to strive to create a school environment; “where the rights of children and young people are respected, protected and fulfilled; where their voices are heard and where they are supported to realise their potential now and in the future” Wellbeing Guidelines, p12
