2 IMPACT Funding, 2009-11. Infrastructure. Hardware. Software
IMPACT Funding, Infrastructure Hardware Software Professional Development We are very excited to receive round two funding for IMPACT. Round two which totals $328,305 will be spent over a two year period. The majority of the hardware funding will be allocated towards increasing access to computers and computer devices throughout DF Walker (updating labs and purchasing Computers on wheels (COWs). About $73,000 of that is earmarked for Staff Development. We are exploring various ways to provide staff development to the staff at DF Walker; including travel to national and state conferences, expert services brought in-house to provide face-to-face training, online modules and webinars, summer institute, etc. We want to provide formats that do not interfere with student learning.

4 21st Century Tools Communicating with Parents
FaceBook Twitter We are using 21st century tools to reach out to our parents and community members. Much of our parent population are using these tools on a personal level. So, it makes since to go where they are. These sites are set up so that parents can become a fan of the school site and received messages on their account.

5 21st Century Tools Communicating with Parents
DFW Web-page Our school web page is updated weekly and shares important announcements as well as news events happening at our school. Our school site also includes a resource page with links for parents to use at home with their students. On teacher pages, there’s news pertinent to their classrooms. Our teachers use a variety of resources to get information home to parents.

6 21st Century Tools Communicating with Parents
DFW onfizz Fizz is a site that is offered through NC State University that houses video content that is secure and only available for viewing by the public. Students and staff are creating instructional videos to share with students and parents at home. These videos can be viewed at school to provide reinforcement. I observed a teacher showing several ways to solve a math problem, one being a video from FIZZ that her co-worker had created to teach the concept. A child in her class was overheard saying, “I’m gonna use that one.” Teachers can also create a blog on this site as well and embed videos on the site for reinforcement or as a reminder of how this is taught. It becomes a support resource for parents as they see exactly how the teacher teaches.
