3 HAS ANYONE HEARD OF A VET CENTER?
Many Veterans have never heard of the Vet Center! All services are 100% free and confidential! Community-based setting, will not find a Vet Center inside a VA clinic or VA hospital Goal: provide counseling, outreach and referral services, to help Veterans make a post-war adjustment to civilian life. 4 VET CENTER HISTORY 1979: VA established outreach centers for Vietnam Veterans and their families out of the recognition that a significant number of Vietnam era Vets were still experiencing readjustment problems. Services extended to all war zone Veterans, sexual harassment/assault victims of any era, drone pilots, first responders, mortuary services, family members of deployed military personnel, and bereavement services. All services are 100% free and confidential! Currently we have over 300 locations nationwide, including Alaska and Hawaii. Individual Group Marital and family Bereavement Drug and alcohol Military Sexual Trauma (MST) Employment guidance Liaison with the VA Benefits assistance Referral services Outreach in urban and rural communities Coffee and a safe place to talk Counselors with combat experience Flexible hours and walk-ins are welcome Counseling and referrals Outreach within the urban & rural communities – reaching Veterans where they are, including Employee Assistance Program briefings, county and state fairs, Military/Veterans Family Days, and Veteran Career Fairs. 13 MOBILE VET CENTER The Mobile Vet Centers (MVCs) of the Department of Veterans Affairs provide readjustment counseling and information resources to Veterans across the country. Like community-based Vet Centers, Mobile Vet Centers focus on services that help Veterans make the difficult transition between military and civilian life.
